Preparatory Biography of Tarkola'an Bey, Part 1

Bey was born at the beginning of the War or Simplicity to working-class parents. At a young age, it became obvious to Bola and Cay that their child was no normal worker. He would spend the majority of his time at the temple, studying the ancient writing unceasingly whenever he was not learning at school or doing jobs around the house. When his primary learning was complete, he was given he 'aku exam to see where his manipulation gifts lay, along with all the others who had just graduated. When the central office received his results, they were shocked to see how high he scored in religious 'aku manipulation, especially in the field of time and space, where he had the highest recorded score for the current test. They moved him immediately into apprenticeship under 4th-order La'an Ba'i, assistant to the Supreme La'an of Tkarn province. There, he progressed slowly through his lessons, taking twice as long on them as the other apprentices were. This shocked and worried Ba'i, that one so promising would progress so haltingly through his favorite subject. Checking with Bey's teachers, Ba'i gathered that he was becoming increasingly distracted during classes, that his homework was not being completed at all, but that he had gotten perfect scores on all tests that were taken. Since he was unable to understand why this was happening, Ba'i confronted Bey about his studies. Through the conversation, Ba'i found out that Bey was being distracted in class because he was seeing the universe unfolded for him starting with the morning meditations and going on late into the night. His homework wasn't getting done because all of his spare time was spent poring over the ancient Scriptures, processing and reaming the teachings of the Tarkola'ani of the past. But, during tests, he always seemed to be the first one done, and he never seemed to get any points off on them. Ba'i decided, based on this information, that Bey was actually progressing much faster than the rest and that he was ready for the La'an qualifying exam, a test he shouldn't actually be ready for for at least 5 more years. Right after speaking with Bey, Ba'i began preparations for the test to be administered on the following day. When the time came, he took Bey to an isolated room deep in his complex. The room had only the one door they entered through and no window at all. Ba'i lead Bey into the room, turned around and left without so much as a word, locking the door behind him as he retreated. Bey instinctively walked to the very center of the room, and floated up so that he was in the direct center of three-dimensional space. Bey then began to allow his 'aku to unstabilize his figure, pouring out in every direction to fill the room. Without knowing why or how, Bey saw a vision of how to move himself through time by focusing all of his 'aku outward in this manner and then pulling it into as tight a point as was possible as quickly as was possible. He concentrated all of his force outward and then, suddenly, switched so that he was moving all of his 'aku to a single point, reshaping his body and the temporal area around him. He had done instinctively what most other students would never succeed at doing, even after many years of training. Even those who also passed this test, did so only after years of practice and training. Bey did it naturally. As he was reforming into Standard, the door opened on its hinges and he looked into the face of a very shocked Ba'i, who was seeing the same person he had locked into the room a single month earlier.
